Bajra (Pearl Millet)

Bajra has a tendency to grow in a healthy bed of seeds without clods because of their smaller size. The soil should be ploughed as a minimum 16 cm with a soil reversing plough with respect to harrowing, twice or thrice. Stagnating of rain water should be avoided while leveling. A dose of compost/FYM should be applied 15-20 days prior sowing the seed. Sufficient moisture is required, for better germination, in the seed bed while sowing. Irrigation Bajra being a rain fed crop hardly requires...

Jowar (Sorghum)

Jowar can be grown in approximately all seasons. It is grown as a Kharif crop in the northern parts of India and as a Rabi crop in the southern. As a kharif crop, Jowar is sown almost in June’s last week, i.e. right after the first shower of monsoon. End of June to starting of July is considered the best time to sow Jowar seeds depending on the beginning of monsoon. While mid October to mid November is considered best to sow the Rabi Jowar. Minimum spacing of 41 to 46 cm among the rows...

Maize (Corn)

*Coming soon* Irrigation For quick root development, wherever feasible, the roots must be drenched shortly after sowing. The depletion level of water, to meet up the complete water requirement, is approx 40% during level 0 i.e. during establishment period, between 55% - 65% during level 1, level 2 and level 3, & up to 80% throughout the level 4 i.e. ripening period. Areas with low rainfall and restricted irrigational water supply are scheduled keeping in mind the water deficits all...

Ragi (Finger Millet)

Ragi needs 3 to 5 months to mature after sowing, be contingent on season, variety and soil characteristics. Rain fed harvest is hacked close to soil; stems are permitted to shrink for a day or two in field, and then packed & stacked for almost 2 months prior threshing. To detach grains, dried out ear-heads are trodden with sticks. Then sheaves are either flattened by bullocks or crushed with the help of stone rollers. The usual yield of rain fed crop varies from 10-15 quintal per hectare,...
